Today, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a joint letter to public health departments and health care systems to partner with housing providers, community development organizations, and other housing agencies to help expand access to naloxone and other life-saving overdose reversal medications in the communities they serve. 

From January 2023 through December 2023, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is projected to serve 330,000 people through homeless service grants for Continuums of Care (CoCs), which represents a 15% increase from 2022, and to help more than 94,000 exit or avoid homelessness by working with public housing authorities (PHAs).

Last month, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a statement of interest in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon explaining that a city’s decision to restrict a church’s distribution of meals to people who are homeless or hungry may have substantially burdened religious exercise under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).  

This month, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) publish a proposed a rule in the Federal Register, which, if finalized, would require public housing agencies (PHAs) to provide tenants with written notification at least 30 days before filing for eviction due to nonpayment of rent in court.
