HUD Awards $41 Million in Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) Grants

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of HIV/AIDS Housing awarded $41 million in Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) grants.

The funding will go to 20 local governments and nonprofit organizations through the HOPWA: Housing as an Intervention to Fight AIDS funding opportunity.

The HOPWA Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), which HUD announced in April, asked applicants to submit proposals for new projects that align with initiatives to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic, in part by elevating housing as an effective intervention.

Approximately half of all people living with HIV in the U.S. will experience homelessness or housing instability at some point following their diagnosis.

The grantees will receive a one-time, non-renewable grant to fund housing assistance and supportive services for eligible beneficiaries, coordination and planning activities, and grants management and administration.
