Meeting the Needs of Families with Young Children Experiencing Homelessness Fact Sheets
In Home, Together , we focus on strategies to ensure that homelessness is a rare, brief, and one-time experience. In order to achieve that goal, national, state, and local partners must work across sectors to build a coordinated community response that addresses the strengths and needs of individuals and families.
This fact sheet series, which aims to foster collaboration between early care and education providers and housing and homelessness services providers, breaks down recommendations from the Policy Statement on Meeting the Needs of Families with Young Children Experiencing and At Risk of Homelessness , which include:
- Supporting a whole-family approach by developing and strengthening partnerships across early childhood and housing programs and systems that focus on the strengths and needs of both parents and children
- Enhancing early childhood program and system integration with the continuum of care’s coordinated entry process
- Improving, leveraging, and integrating early childhood homelessness data into community-wide planning efforts to serve families experiencing homelessness
A total of six fact sheets, which will be published in stages, are intended for early care and education providers and housing and homelessness services providers, including:
Early Care and Education:
- Early Head Start/Head Start programs
- Child care agencies and local providers
- Preschool providers
- Home visiting service providers
- Providers of early intervention and special education (Parts B and C of the IDEA, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) services for preschool-aged children
Homelessness and Housing:
- Continuum of care partners and homelessness assistance providers
- Public housing authorities and housing choice voucher administrators
- Multi-family housing program administrators and landlords
- Emergency shelter providers
- Drop-in center providers and street outreach providers
