The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently awarded $25.4 million to 99 public housing agencies (PHAs) to support 2,308 HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers.

The HUD-VASH Program provides supportive housing assistance for veterans experiencing homelessness, combined with rental assistance from HUD and case management and clinical services from VA.

Thanks to the joint efforts of HUD, VA, and USICH, veteran homelessness has fallen by 11% since early 2020—the biggest drop in more than 5 years. This drop happened during a global pandemic and economic crisis, proving that progress can happen even under the most difficult circumstances. Furthermore, in December, VA was on track to meet, and even exceed, its goal of placing 38,000 homeless veterans into permanent homes in 2022.
