HUD Issues More Vouchers to Prevent or End Homelessness After Foster Care
To prevent and end foster youth homelessness, the Department of Housing and Urban Development recently announced that it will make $688,000 available for 12 public housing authorities (PHAs) in 9 states : California, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
PHAs can access the funding, which includes a total of 80 Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Initiative vouchers , as they receive referrals from a partnering public child welfare agency.
FYI makes housing choice vouchers available to PHAs for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who left foster care or will leave foster care in the next 90 days and are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The PHAs must have a partnership with public child welfare agencies.
