In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced nearly $3.6 million to help people experiencing homelessness in communities across Oklahoma and Texas that were damaged by the storm earlier this summer.

Through HUD’s Rapid Unsheltered Survivor Housing (RUSH) Program, grant awards will help communities provide rapid assistance for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and historically excluded from federal disaster assistance.

HUD’s RUSH funding will allow communities to:

  • Provide emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, financial assistance for move-in costs, and supportive services for people who were experiencing homelessness before Hurricane Beryl
  • Invest in homelessness prevention, utility assistance, and supportive services to meet urgent needs of people who became at risk of homelessness after Hurricane Beryl
  • Provide up to 24 months of rental assistance for people who faced homelessness before and after Hurricane Beryl
