The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced that it permanently housed 46,552 veterans experiencing homelessness in 2023—surpassing the calendar year goal to house 38,000 veterans by 22%.

Exceeding other 2023 goals, VA:

  • Engaged with 40,203 unsheltered veterans to connect them with the housing and resources they need
  • Ensured that 95.9% of veterans housed have remained in housing
  • Ensured that 96.4% of the veterans who returned to homelessness have been rehoused or are on a pathway to rehousing

In the Greater Los Angeles area, VA provided permanent housing to 1,790 veterans experiencing homelessness in 2023—the most of any city in America.

This is the second year in a row that VA helped more than 40,000 veterans move off the streets and into homes where they can rebuild their lives and recover from the trauma of homelessness.
