Department of Labor Announces $15 million in new job training grants for Veterans experiencing homelessness
June 20, 2012
The Department of Labor yesterday announced 64 new grant awards totaling $15 million for job training programs that assist Veterans experiencing homelessness in the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). HVRP is the only program within the federal government focused exclusively on the employment needs of Veterans experiencing homelessness, and has shown to be an effective and efficient program for Veterans in need. The funds this year will go to serve approximately 8,6000 more Veterans in addition to exisiting HVRP grantees. The new grants awarded will add to the $19 million the Department of Labor has committed in the upcoming year for existing HVRP grantees.
Funds awarded yesterday went to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and other groups, including faith-based and community organizations that are familiar with the needs and demographics of their Veteran population.
