Every day, providers in rural communities and in shelters in our largest cities work skillfully and passionately to respond to the needs of families experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Whether it's for a young mom with two small children and one on the way who just lost housing or for a family on the verge of homelessness because dad just lost his job, front line workers and community planners across the country are always working to improve the care for families seeking homeless services. As a provider before joining USICH, I can attest.
We know that homelessness has devastating effects on families and their children. No family, no child should be without a safe and stable place to call home. USICH and Federal partners have adopted a vision of an end to family homelessness--that no family will be without shelter, and homelessness in every community across the country will be a rare and brief occurrence.
Beginning on Thursday, May 22 at 1:00pm ET, USICH, HHS, and HUD will host an informational webinar series on Family Connection: Building Systems to End Family Homelessness, an interactive resource designed to help communities and stakeholders build and implement an effective housing crisis response system for families. The first webinar of this series is intended to provide communities and stakeholders with an overview of what we know about families experiencing homelessness, the Federal vision of an end to homelessness among families, and the key areas of action that we believe are needed to reach that vision.
The following webinars in this series will focus specifically on those key areas of action: coordinated entry, tailored interventions and assistance, connection to mainstream systems, and evidence-based practices.
I’m proud of Family Connection. I believe it gives communities and stakeholders a blueprint to follow--a roadmap, if you will--for building systems to end family homelessness. My vision, our vision, is that no family, no child should be without a safe and stable place to call home. Join USICH and Federal partners in a webinar to discuss Family Connection. Only together can we make this vision a reality.
