Child and Adult Care Food Program
The CACFP At-Risk Afterschool Meals program provides snacks and meals to low-income children participating in afterschool, weekend, or holiday activities such as a tutoring program or afterschool childcare.
All school-age children who are 18 and under at the start of the school year may receive a free meal and/or snack. The age limitations differ for children with disabilities.
The Food and Nutrition Service administers CACFP through grants to States. The program is administered within most States by the State educational agency. In a few States it is administered by an alternate agency, such as the State health or social services department. The child care component and the adult day care component of CACFP may be administered by different agencies within a State at the discretion of the Governor.
