NHCHC Webinar: Medicaid Expansion & HCH Programs
Monday, May 19 - from 1:00 to 2:00 PM
The Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) expansion of Medicaid to most people earning at or below 138 percent of the Federal poverty level (FPL) is the most significant aspect of the law that directly benefits very low income people, but only in states that have opted to expand. As of April 1, 2014, 26 states and the District of Columbia have chosen to expand their Medicaid programs, while 24 states have yet to do so. The impact of these state decisions will exacerbate existing disparities in health insurance enrollment for those living in poverty, especially for those experiencing homelessness and the Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) grantees that serve them.
This webinar features national experts who will discuss how the expansion of Medicaid and private insurance will likely impact health center enrollment and revenue as the law is implemented in 2014, with a particular focus on enrollment projections for HCH grantees. CEOs from two HCH programs—one in a Medicaid expansion state and one from a non-expansion state—will discuss how their state decision is impacting their business operations, client access to care in these first months of implementation, and the next steps for their program development.
