Veterans’ Workforce Investment Program
The Veterans’ Workforce Investment Programs provides funds to assist Veterans experiencing homelessness in gaining meaningful employment through client-centered case management. Case managers work with Veterans in individual job counseling, connecting them to classroom or on the job training, skills upgrading and retraining, and placement assistance.
The Department of Labor is also placing emphasis on training Veterans for employment in the growing green jobs market, and case managers connect veterans to training opportunities within DOL for these new employment opportunities. This program aims to overcome the barriers to employment faced by Veterans experiencing homelessness or other challenges and facilitate their transition into the civilian workforce.
State and local Workforce Investment Boards, state and local government agencies, and nonprofit service providers are eligible for this funding.
All Veterans are eligible to receive benefits from this program. However, program emphasis is placed on Veterans with notable barriers to employment, including Veterans with a disability and Veterans experiencing homelessness.
Grants are awarded competitively on an annual basis for eligible applicants. Grants are awarded for one year with the option of a second year based on available funds.
